Handling DDOS attacks

April 1st, 2008

In the last 2 months, many of my websites have been subject to DDOS attacks. They increase the number of connections to the server, so that the website can no longer be reachable. This works for large ecommerce sites with a fixed IP or dynamic sites.

But if you have dynamic sites with only a few hundred visitors each, shifting servers is very simple, you only need to react quickly to the DDOS attack. The attacks had stopped for a few days, so I decided to make my forums available again. Forums are not a good source of revenue, so I was not losing much anyway.

As soon as my forum became available, the DDOS attacks resumed, so they were back in standby mode. So design a website so that the attacker ends up spending more on the DDOS attack, than what you lose in website revenue

Having quick online reflexes

March 31st, 2008

While there are many advantages of buying and selling online, one big problem that every online merchant faces is internet fraud. To deal with it , you need to have quick reflexes.

I have a reseller account for domains, and the amount of fraud I face is incredible. There are people who will do anything to waste your time. Make deposits in your Paypal account and then immediately ask for a refund the amount, register a domain, delete it and then ask for a refund.

To deal with this problem, you need to have quick reflexes online. As soon as you detect the fraud, you should take immediate action and eliminate the loopholes which are creating the problem. Or make it so expensive for the fraudsters that they will think twice before they try to  carry out any other fraudulent activity.
